christopher kane for the soul

If there was one show this season that stood out, it was Kane's.

I read somewhere that he was inspired by the daydreams of a teenage girl in her bedroom, and maybe that's why it connected - the clothes unearthed childhood memories of collecting, making, dreaming.

Cuts in dresses made crafty shapes like the snipped folds of old homemade paper decorations:

Material shone like the coloured foil from a sweet wrapper smoothed out and saved, decorated in ghostly faded floral:

Colourful collected flowers featured on dresses and jackets on material as fine as tracing paper:

Glistening precious gem stones, like those pinched from odd earrings found in old jewellery boxes, featured in a childlike glory of shameless abundance:

Short, shiny skirts were teamed with white shirts, looking just like the ones we all 'borrowed' from a friend's older sister's wardrobe and pulled on over our school shirts:

And then there was this dress, which was just a thing of beauty all by itself:

Young, curious and dreamy - what a happy part of the soul to reconnect with.
